Don't be Gay About It

Leviticus 18:22 “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”

This is the big bad passage that condemns “Gays.” Has anyone read two verses up?

Leviticus 18:22 “...thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife to defile thyself...”

Let's go four more verses up?

Leviticus 18:16 “Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife”

First of all, I must say I am agnostic, but when dealing with people of the faith and their “reasons” for condemning others I must use their own material against them if I am to have any progress in the debate. I once asked my religious father, “How do you know the Bible is narrated by a real “God” and not merely a collection of (very bad) stories from men?” His answer was not scientific or logical in anyway. He used the Bible to prove itself by quoting Psalms 12:6 “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.” I, at that point, immediately lost the debate.

 So, using the Bible, let's find out why homosexuals should or should not marry.

Leviticus chapter 18 tells of all the things that are abominable, defiling, wrong, sinful, horrible etc etc.

Why pick gays out in vs 16 and disregard the rest?

Sleeping with another man's wife is “adultery” and wrong; however, if a military man were to do this, he would be high-fived by his buddies - NOT stuffed in a wall-locker and rolled down a hill behind the barracks.

How many stories have you heard of men sleeping with their brother's wives? Plenty. The humorous part about this brother/wife situation is that the remedy is to:

1.) the wife divorce her husband and marry the “other brother” so it's no longer adulterous incest-in-law or

2.) just keep doing it because no one really cares.

If there are going to be people on the streets with signs to “burn the gays,” “stone the gays,” “god hates gays,” better add a few more signs: “burn the adulterers,” “stone the incestors,” “god hates people who have sex any way but missionary style!” If it's wrong for homosexuals to marry, it should be wrong for a woman to divorce her husband to be with the lover she's been cheating with; but we allow it with no picket signs.

There are a few other reverences in the Bible to "Gays."

Genesis 9:24 “And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.”

When I was growing up, my mother convinced me that Ham butt-raped his sleeping/drunken father and was cursed by God for this abominable act. After reading this passage myself, I can't find any proof that Ham did anything to his father other than draw on him with a black sharpie marker. Even if Ham did rape his father, why would it not be the rape itself that was so bad? 

Genesis 19:5 “....Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them...”

Genesis 19:8 “Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes...”

I'm sure if Lot had sons instead of daughters he would have offered the wicked people his sons to save the rectums of God's virtuous angels. This again is a case where you have to read the surrounding verses and chapters to realize that Sodom was not simply a city full of homosexuals. It was full of every type of abominable sin, in God's eyes. As it says in Ezekiel 16:49 “Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.” I see a whole lot more than just gayness. Actually, I don't even see homosexual activity listed here at all. Why christians refer to "gays" as "Sodomites" is really unfactual. From this verse, a "Sodomite" would be and idle, overweight individual.

Use your common sense.  Why would two men having sex be against God's rules? Because he created man and woman to pro-create. Sex was intended to make more minions for the Lord's army, not for pleasure. It bothers God greatly when men "spill their seed" wasting it. Genesis 38: 9-10 “...that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother. And the thing which he did was evil in the sight of the LORD; and He slew him also. It also bothers God when couples engage in sex when a woman is on her period -- because she is infertile during this time and it is a waste of sexual activity. Leviticus 18:19 "Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness." How many of you use the "pull out method" (or masturbate) or have sex during that "time of the month?"  It's an abomination!

If people want to take these verses in their Bible and condemn gay unity by classing it with adultery, incest, rape etc, period sex, masturbation fine. Go for it. But if you DO, you'd better go through your own closet first:

 No pants, ladies.

Deuteronomy 22:5 “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.”

No dogs allowed .

Deuteronomy 23:18 “Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God.”

No lending money to your family.

Deuteronomy 23:19 “Thou shalt not lend upon usury to thy brother; usury of money, usury of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon usury”

No re-marrying your ex-wife if she married & divorced again after you.

Deuteronomy 24:4 “...her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD”

There are so many more examples in that book, but I think you get the point. So either leave the homosexuals alone or stop acting "gay" and start following that book like you expect them to. 

Brief after-thought:

I couldn't find anything about women laying with woman-kind. Unless you read the very first verse I listed: Leviticus 18:22 “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” and read it as addressed to a woman. In which case, it tells women it is an abomination to lay with a man, but instead should only lay with other women. Hmm...interesting. The Bible is a sexually biased piece of work addressed to men only, but that's an entirely separate issue.
