The temporary closure of the outer loop ramp is needed to build transitions, curbs and sidewalks.
The Maryland State Highway Administration announced the temporary closure of the ramp from the outer loop of the I-695 beltway to Frederick Road for a one-month period. The closure will begin at 9 p.m on Sunday, Sept. 9, according to the SHA. The ramp closure is part of SHA’s $16.5 million project to replace the Frederick Road bridge over the beltway. During the closure, work crews will rebuild the end of the ramp connection to Frederick Road, construct the transition from the new bridge to the roadway, and build new curbs, gutters and sidewalks along the future westbound lanes of Frederick Road, according to the SHA. The light was installed by contractors several weeks ago and won't be operational for at least another month.
As more drivers may be detouring around the Frederick Road bridge in Catonsville to avoid construction, state contractors have added one upgrade to a neighboring road to respond to the additional car volume. A traffic light has been installed at the Edmondson Avenue exit at Interstate 695 by contractors with State Highway Administration. The light appeared roughly two weeks ago but is still covered up. The light has been installed prior to the entrance ramp to the Baltimore Beltway at Edmondson Avenue adjacent to the Royal Farms. While SHA officials told Patch that the light would not be operational for at least another month, the installation is tied to construction on the bridge. The $20 million project, which is expected to be completed…
