Sassy is an adorable, fun, and good-natured Puggle in search of a loving family.
Hey Guys! My name is Sassy and I’m an adorable Puggle, a crossbreed of a pug and beagle. I’m a little over three years old and a sturdy 20 pounds. I’m at an ideal age; old enough to know better and able to relax and enjoy companionship, but young enough to have plenty of energy and still want to play. My rescue friends think my name really suits me because I’m the total pup package, all wrapped up in a bundle of cuteness. I’m playful, social, smart, have a well-balanced temperament, and - let’s face it - I’m super cute and, yes, sassy! Originally, Mutts Matter rescued me from the shelter after Animal Control found me wandering the streets as a stray. I was adopted quickly by a family who I thought would love me and care for me forever, …

Meet Bart and Eddie, two sweet, young Poodle-mix pups ready to face the world together.
Meet Bart and Eddie, two adorable, sweet Poodle-mix pups who are a little over a year old and weigh about 15 pounds. Bart and Eddie are brothers and best buds who complement each other and have been a source of security in each other’s lives. Bart is more energetic and inquisitive, and always wants to be by your side. Eddie is more reserved and calm, but has a sense of independence about him. Both are very sweet, gentle souls in search of love and security. Bart and Eddie were rescued as part of a cruelty and neglect case, and were taken in by Animal Control when their owner was incarcerated. They were living in a small, run-down hotel room and were being used for breeding by their owner, who would sell their puppies. They were kept crated…

Meet Duncan, a young, striking Mastiff-mix pup who will steal your heart and keep you entertained.
Hey there. My name is Duncan and I’m here to introduce myself. I’m a handsome and affectionate Mastiff mix, with a unique, sable-colored coat and grey-blue eyes. Mutts Matter thinks I may even have some German shorthaired pointer in me... You probably can’t tell I have webbed feet, but do you see those speckles on my chest? I’m a goofy young pup, at only fourteen months old, but I’m also very strong and a strapping 75 pounds. I still have some puppy playfulness and mischievousness in me, and like to test my boundaries, but isn’t that what youth is all about? I was rescued from a shelter in Montgomery County after my owners surrendered me because they were moving. I was only nine months old and left to fend for myself, just like a whole …

Looking to add some puppy love and energy into your life? Meet Butters, a sweet and playful one-year-old terrier pup in search of his family.
Hi Guys! My name is Butters. I'm a sweet and energetic one-year-old terrier mix who weighs about 45 pounds. I was rescued from a shelter in Rockingham County, Virginia after my owner surrendered me. He said he no longer had time to take care of me, and that I had grown larger than he expected. Jeez… like I have any control over that! The shelter was concerned about me, and called Mutts Matter in to help because I was going a little crazy being cooped up in there with very little outside time or exercise. I was just not cut out for the chaotic environment of a shelter, and am so glad someone came to my rescue. As a young pup, I’ve already had to face the world on my own and have learned that it can be a scary place. You see, I'm a very …

Meet Brad, a Boxer pup with a sad beginning, but big hopes for a bright future.
In rescue, we see a lot of dogs who come from neglectful situations or have had a tough start in life. They all have unique personalities and some dogs need a little more TLC and rehabilitation than others to make the transition to a new home. But even pups from the most troubling situations, once they’re given love, stability, and security, can leave the past behind and live in the now. We continue to be amazed at how resilient and hopeful dogs are, and that is certainly one of the many things that we can learn from them. Brad is one of those dogs who has been mistreated by people, but still has an innocence and innate sweetness in him that he wants to share with a person he can trust. He has never known what a loving family can be; …

Meet Leo, a handsome St. Bernard-mix with a sweet, gentle spirit and accepting nature.
Hey there, Patch readers. My name is Leo and I’m a soft, fluffy ball of sweetness with a very laid-back attitude. Mutts Matter thinks I’m a St. Bernard-mix, which makes sense given how tall and handsome I am. I have a soft and flowing creamy-white coat, and big, soulful brown eyes. I’m about four or five years old and weigh 85 pounds, but I could stand to put on some more weight due to the lack of care I received in my last home. Just because my last owner wasn’t good to me is no reason for me to hold a grudge against the rest of the world, so I stay positive and friendly with everyone I meet, no matter who they are. I was rescued out of a shelter in rural South Carolina after being saved from my home by Animal Control. I was underweight …

Ricco is a playful, affectionate Miniature Pinscher mix who will make someone a great companion.
Hi, guys! My name is Ricco and I’m a spunky Min-Pin mix in search of my person. I’m two years old and only weigh about 15 pounds, so I’m a little guy, but I’ve got a lot of spirit. I was rescued out of a shelter in northern Virginia after my owner surrendered me with my pug sibling because he was working long hours and could no longer take care of us. I still don’t get it; we weren’t much trouble and were both very dedicated to him. This whole experience has been really tough on me. I didn't do well being abandoned in the shelter and was terrified of all the noise and commotion. My pug brother has already been adopted, so I sit here and wait for my new family. Luckily, my new foster mom, Lisa, really gets me. She lives in a quiet condo …

Sweet Monty was saved by a local teen from life on the streets and is looking for his new family.
Monty is the true definition of a love bug. He’s a sweet, affectionate, and playful pit-mix who just wants to be loved and be part of a family. He’s a handsome boy who’s only a year old and weighs in at about 60 pounds. His body is still playing catch-up with his big, blocky head, and he has a big, warm bully smile that lights up when he sees you. Monty’s story is one that demonstrates the best and worst in people. He was found running free in an abandoned parking lot near a major highway by Lauren Bradford, a Good Samaritan and local senior at Fairfax High School. Lauren’s parents were away for the weekend and she took it upon herself to take this sweet pup in, canvass the local neighborhoods, and post flyers and ads on Craigslist in …

Boone & Sons Jewelers makes dog rescue a priority
Businesses of all shapes and sizes donate to charity, and they often give to the large, name brand organizations with big marketing budgets. Everyone can rally around the fight to cure cancer, help kids in need, or support victims of natural disasters, and all of these things are very worthy and important causes. What’s not as common, however, is to see prominent businesses get behind local dog rescue. Rescue groups like Mutts Matter get most of their corporate sponsorships from companies in the pet industry that understand the importance of rescue and know the hard, sad facts – that five to seven million animals enter the shelter system each year, and over four million don’t make it out. As an all-volunteer, nonprofit rescue, Mutts …

Welcome to our first dog of the week from Small Miracles!

Wednesday, March 7, 2012
Hello, my name is Faith and I’m a shepherd mix. If you haven’t noticed despite the insane media coverage, yesterday was Super Tuesday and I’m super excited! Can you guess why? Well, it has nothing to do with politics. Have you ever broken down that word? Poli (many) and tics (blood sucking creatures). As a dog, that scares me and makes me what to go out and get every flea and tick collar I can get my paws on! I’m also super excited because this is the first time a dog is being featured at the Small Miracles Pet of the Week! I’m friendly, love to go on walks, like to cuddle, and am a cute size so I nominated myself to be the first dog. Plus, I’m just really looking forward to a family to play with and love. Take a poll at your home and …
