'Draino Bomb' Detonated in Arbutus

No injuries or damage reported from bottle bomb set off on East Drive on Nov. 3.

A "Draino bomb" was set off on the 5300 block of East Drive at around 11:47 p.m. on Nov. 3, according to a police report. No damage or injuries were reported from the destructive device, the report said. Police have no suspects in the incident, according to the police report. Drano bombs, also called “bottle bombs,” are made from a few basic household items and explode when gas generated by a chemical reaction inside the capped bottle builds to a breaking point, according to police spokeswoman Elise Armacost. Drano bombs can cause severe injury, especially if they’re placed in a mailbox or other container that can turn to shrapnel if the device goes off, Armacost wrote in a Patch blog.
