Halethorpe Man Convicted in Lansdowne Murder

Larry Eugene Horton, 38, was convicted of first-degree murder Thursday.

A Halethorpe man faces life behind bars after he was convicted Thursday of murdering an 18-year-old man. Larry Eugene Horton, 38, was convicted of the first-degree murder of Ryan Wesley Jackson in Baltimore County Circuit Court after a four-day trial, according to a press release from the State’s Attorney for Baltimore County. Horton will be sentenced on April 29. He faces a maximum penalty of life without the possibility of parole. Jackson, who was 18 at the time of his murder, was found dead in the Brooklyn area of Baltimore City on Oct. 15, 2011. An autopsy revealed that he died from 24 hatchet blows to the head. I am trying to understand this. An 18 year old drug dealer enters the home of a 38 year old man, approaches him with a hatchet, a fight ensues and the 18 year old is killed. How is this considered murder. Sounds like self defense to me.   more ›

Police Charge Annapolis Man in Owings Mills Homicide

Baltimore County Police have charged an Annapolis man with murder in the death of Owings Mills resident Katie Hadel. Jeffrey Michael Shiflett, 33, of the 1700 block of Saint Margarets Road in Annapolis, is charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to a Baltimore County Police press release. He was arrested without incident Wednesday morning shortly after 11 a.m. when an officer spotted him walking on the street in the Reisterstown area, police said. He is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Police found the body of Hadel, 33, in her apartment on the unit block of Wellhaven Circle Tuesday night while responding to a domestic disturbance report. Two Men Arrested in 2009 Randallstown Homicide

Baltimore County police arrested Eric Isaiah Johnson and Leonard Briscoe last week.

Baltimore County police arrested two men last week in the Sept. 30, 2009, stabbing death of Rodney Lewis in his Randallstown home. On Jan. 2, police arrested Eric Isaiah Johnson, according to a news release. Then, on Jan. 3, police arrested Leonard Briscoe. Both have been charged with first-degree murder. At about 4 p.m. Sept. 30, 2009, officers went to the Lewis' residence in the 9500 block of Liberty Road. During their investigation, police found out that Johnson was staying with Lewis and Lewis' wife. On that day someone had called and reported "finding the body of Rodney Lewis deceased on the kitchen floor," a county news release states. Lansdowne Man Gets 115 Years in Teen's Halloween Murder

Sterlin Matthews, 19, of Lansdowne, was sentenced Thursday to 115 years in prison for killing a 16-year-old boy on Halloween in Baltimore Highlands in 2010. According to a statement from the State's Attorney for Baltimore County, Matthews was convicted Oct. 25 in Baltimore County Circuit Court of second-degree murder, 11 counts of first-degree assault and three counts of Use of a Handgun in the Commission of a Crime of Violence. The murder occurred Oct. 31, 2010, when Dequan Burks, 16, was with a group of teens for Halloween in Lansdowne. Gwynn Oak Man Gets Life for Woodlawn Murder

Antoine Reed was sentenced for a 2008 murder at Hunter's Crossing Apartments.

Antoine M. Reed Jr. was sentenced Tuesday in Baltimore County Circuit Court to life without parole in the 2008 shooting death of a Woodlawn apartment complex manager, according to a news release from the State's Attorney's office. Judge John J. Nagle III sentenced Reed, of Gwynn Oak, in the death of Milton Barnes, the manager of the Hunter's Crossing Apartments complex. Reed was convicted by a jury in August of first-degree murder and unlawful use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence . Barnes, "was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the head on June 24, 2008," according to the news release. Barnes reportedly "had been having difficulties with an employee." Baltimore Man Convicted in 2010 Halloween Triple Shooting

A Baltimore County Circuit Court jury found Sterlin Matthews, 19, guilty of the murder of Dequan Burks, who was 16 when he and three others were shot on the night of Oct. 31, 2010, near the pedestrian footbridge over the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, according to a release issued by State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger. According to the release, Burks had been with a group of teenagers for Halloween in Lansdowne. The group crossed a footbridge into Baltimore Highlands when shots were fired by Matthews, the release said. Drawing on footage from hundreds of cameras located throughout Towson Town Center mall, investigators presented to a Baltimore County jury the final moments of Rodney Pridget's life. Pridget, 19, was shot and killed outside Nordstrom at Towson Town Center on Dec. 19, during the height of the holiday shopping rush. Four men are alleged to have followed the Baltimore teen through the mall, and one is said by police to have fired eight rounds into Pridget's head, chest, back, arms and right flank. Trial Begins for Baltimore Highlands Man Charged in Towson Mall Shooting

A trial started this week for two of four men charged in a December murder outside Towson Town Center. Frank Theodore Williams, of the 2900 block of Lakebrook Circle in Baltimore Highlands, and William Ward III, of the 600 block of Cator Avenue in Baltimore, were arrested in February in connection with the Dec. 21 shooting. According to a press release from the Baltimore County State's Attorney's office, the trial began Monday in Baltimore County Circuit Court and is expected to conclude by Friday. A trial for the alleged gunman, Tyrone Chester Brown Jr. of Baltimore, is set to start Sept. 11. A trial for alleged accomplice Jermell Brandon, originally set for this week, was postponed. Catonsville Man Sentenced for Murder of Dundalk Woman

On Monday, a Catonsville man was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the June 9, 2010, murder of Dundalk resident Leslie Jo Rasmussen. Baltimore County Circuit Court Judge Sherrie Bailey issued the sentence against Robert T. Buck of the unit block of Wade Avenue in Catonsville, according to a statement from Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger. Police officers were called to the 7100 block of Holabird Avenue on June 9, 2010, after receiving a call about a possible cardiac arrest, according to the statement. Upon arrival at the home, first responders found Rasmussen, 48, dead, according to an ABC2 news report.
