Crash Closes Beltway Outer Loop

Collision with car and van sends multiple people to hospitals, closes the outer loop of the I-695 beltway.

A collision and rollover on the I-695 beltway resulted in multiple injuries and forced the closure of the outer loop, according to state police officials. At around 2:51 p.m., a car and passenger van crashed on the beltway between Washington Boulevard and I-95, causing the van to roll over and trap several people inside, police said. Two people have been transported to University of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center, and one person was taken to another hospital for treatment, according to police. Additional ambulances have been dispatched to the scene, police said.

Toppled Truck Closes Inner Loop Beltway

Overturned load of construction materials blocked all inner loop lanes.

An overturned tractor trailer spilled construction supplies across all three lanes of the I-695 beltway near Washington Boulevard in Lansdowne Thursday afternoon, shutting down the roadway to all westbound traffic. The incident happened at around 12:41 p.m., according to Maryland State Police. The tractor trailer, carrying scaffolding, wood and other building materials, came to rest on its side near the entrance ramp from Washington Boulevard, south of I-95. There were no injuries from the incident, according to state police.

Construction Snarling Area Highways

Replacement of the Frederick Road bridge creates a third work zone on the west side of the Beltway.

Road travel in the southwest corner of Baltimore County, already clogged with several major repair projects, is about to get a little trickier with the addition of a third work zone on this side of the Beltway. Beginning Dec. 13, a work zone has been designated for the outer loop of the Beltway while the Frederick Road bridge is replaced.The work zone extends the the length of the Frederick Road exit and entrance ramps. An automated speed camera will be deployed at the work zone to enforce the 55 mph speed limit. After a 21-day warning period, the state will begin issuing citations on Jan. 3. A work zone has already been designated for the inner loop of the Beltway while the bridge over Wilkens Avenue is replaced and ramps realigned. The …
