Schools System to Hold Discussion on Bus System in Arbutus

The meeting with the Baltimore County Public Schools' transportation director will be held Wednesday at Maiden Choice School.

Baltimore County Public Schools' head of transportation will discuss the school bus system in a presentation Wednesday in Arbutus. The BCPS Southwest Area Advisory Council event, titled “Transportation: Safe driving, student safety, bus privileges and bus routes," will be held at Maiden Choice School at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Jim Mitcherling, director of the system's office of transportation, will talk about the bus and transportation system and take questions from residents. Lansdowne Middle Receives Open Space Grant

The money will fund lighting upgrades on the school's fields.

Landsdowne Middle School was one of five recipients of state funds Wednesday under Program Open Space. Maryland's Board of Public Works approved $590,100 in funds for a project there and four others in Baltimore, Frederick and Howard counties. “It is essential that we continue to provide safe, accessible outdoor spaces for our families to enjoy,” Lt. Gov.Anthony G. Brown said in a news release. “When young people have opportunities to play and learn outdoors, they develop an appreciation for their natural world and a desire to care for it.” The Program Open Space approval will fund lighting upgrades on Lansdowne's fields to meet safety standards, according to state officials. Lansdowne High 50th Birthday Party Set For October

The event will be held at Martin's West on Oct. 12.

Lansdowne High School. The party is going to be held on Oct. 12 at Martin's West in Woodlawn from 8 p.m. to midnight, according to the event's website. The school opened its doors in 1963. Tickets are $57 per person and buyers will receive a commemorative booklet and a keepsake mug. The deadline for tickets is Sept. 27. Attendees must be 21 or over. UMBC Soccer Player Nominated for National Award

Pete Caringi III is a finalist for national soccer honor.

UMBC soccer player Pete Caringi III is one of 34 collegiate soccer players named as a finalist for the 2012 Soccer News Net College Boot award, recognizing the men's college player of the year. Caringi is the son of UMBC soccer coach Pete Caringi Jr. For this award, the editors of each of the sites in the Soccer News Net network nominated as many as five local players for the honor, and each of them is eligible for the regional player of the year award.   In addition, fans from around the United States can vote for the best collegiate player through Dec. 22. Arbutus Middle School to Feature Concerts

There will be music concerts on four straight nights in December.

It's going to be music time very soon at Arbutus Middle School. The school plans on hosting concerts from its students on four consecutive nights in mid-December.  The first winter concert is on Monday, Dec. 10, with students from grade 6 singing from 7-8:30 p.m. Seventh graders are scheduled to sing the following night at the same time. On Dec. 12, the eighth-grade students get to sing. Everything concludes on that Thursday with an honors concert.  For more information on these concerts, check with the school.
