Toni Marie Koetzle, 24, killed when the car she was driving veered across lanes on I-95 near Newark, Del., and was struck by a Bolt Bus.
A Halethorpe native with family ties to the area was killed on Oct. 24 when the vehicle she was driving was struck by a Bolt Bus and spun out of control on I-95 near Newark, Del., according to Delaware State Police. Toni Marie Koetzle, 24 years old and almost six months pregnant, wasn't wearing a seatbelt, according to DSP spokesman Cpl. John Day. According to police, at around 5:30 p.m. Koetzle was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the right-hand lane of southbound I-95, approaching the toll booths near Exit 1. For unknown reasons, Koetzel's vehicle veered across several lanes of traffic and was struck by a southbound Bolt Bus, then flipped several times before coming to a rest on the median, police said. Young female driver transported to Shock Trauma after striking telephone pole on Clarke Ave.
A driver was transported by ambulance to University of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center after striking a telephone pole on the 1800 block of Clarke Ave. in Relay at around 9:25 p.m. on Saturday, according to police and witnesses at the scene. The driver, described by witnesses as a young female, was headed northbound on Clarke when she struck the pole, damaging the left corner of the vehicle. She was the only occupant in the vehicle at the time of the crash, according to witnesses. According to police, the driver was taken to Shock Trauma as a precaution, but did not appear to have suffered life-threatening injuries. New heavy rescue truck will cost about $700,000 when fully equipped.
Members of Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department got a look at their new heavy rescue vehicle when it was brought to the firehouse on Sept. 21. The truck has a price tag of about $650,000, which will total about $750,000 when fully decked out with equipment and gear. The new vehicle replaces a 20-year-old truck that has neared the end of its useful life of service, according to AVFD President John McDowell. According to AVFD Chief Douglas Simpkins, the new vehicle features state-of-the-art safety equipment, including air bags and a rear-view video camera. The rescue squad vehicle will be put in service once it has been equipped and drivers have had an opportunity to get trained behind the wheel, Simpkins said.
