Residents Paint Defaced Lansdowne Tunnel

Graffiti-strewn blemish obliterated with a coat of fresh concrete paint.

Members of Lansdowne Improvement Association took to brushes and paint rollers on May 12 to tackle a longstanding annoyance--two graffiti-tarnished alcoves that remain from the and the CSX tracks.

"When businesses look at Lansdowne, we don't want them to see broken windows and graffiti," said the LIA's Chris Koloski. "We just want to present a good image. We're a part of making the community look better."

On hand were LIA president Gary Koloski and board members John Yanulov, Karl McGovern and Betty Knox.

Also working was councilman Tom Quirk--who donated $200 to LIA for the paint--and legislative aide Pete Kriscumas. Del. James Malone dropped by to participate in a supervisory capacity.

When one end of the tunnel was completed, the group paused to admire the unblemished surfaces. Will they stay that way?

"I hope so," Chris Koloski said. "I hope people respect their community and the hard work that we do."
