Weekend Weather: Stay Inland, Stay Dry

Rain is in the forecast at the beach and at home, but for your best chance to avoid thunderstorms after tonight, stay close to home.

Unfortunately, this weekend the best beach weather isn’t at the beach.

The National Weather Service is forecasting rain and thunderstorms for Friday night – some may be severe with high winds and downpours – and temperatures will drop to about 67 degrees. But once the storms pass, the weather should be mild, with highs in the high 80s and clear, sunny skies through Sunday.

Temperatures will drop to the mid-60s at night.

But at the beaches, it’s a different story.

NWS issued a flood advisory and a severe thunderstorm watch for Rehoboth Beach Friday. Rain and thunderstorms are likely tonight, bringing gusty winds and heavy rain. Temperatures should drop to about 70 tonight.

There’s a chance of more rain and thunderstorms Sunday, when the temperature is expected to reach 82 degrees. Saturday night should be clear with a low in the mid 60s. Skies are expected to stay clear Sunday, when the temperature reaches just the low 80s.

At Virginia Beach, NWS is forecasting a high of about 72 degrees. Rain and thunderstorms are also in the forecast, along with gusty winds and frequent lightning. Temperatures should be a bit higher Saturday in Virginia, peaking at about 86 degrees. There is also a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms.

Tonight’s storm also is expected to hit Ocean City, according to NWS, with high winds, downpours and frequent lightning. Temperatures will drop to the low 70s. Skies will stay cloudy tomorrow morning, clearing as the day goes on. Temperatures should peak at about 82 degrees. Saturday night, expect clear skies and temperatures near 70 degrees.

There’s a small chance of more rain Sunday, and even thunderstorms in the afternoon. Other than that, expect sunny skies and temperatures in the low 80s.

If you’re looking for a rain-free Saturday and Sunday, your best bet is to skip the beach and stay inland.
