UMBC Men's Basketball Breaks 8-Game Losing Streak Wednesday

The Retrievers beat New Hampshire, 68-57, in an America East game at UMBC to snap the eight-game losing skid.

The UMBC men's basketball team kept coming close but couldn't stop their recent losing streak.

On Wednesday night, they finally did it.

Ryan Cook scored a game-high 21 points to help UMBC pull away in the second half en route to a 68-57 victory over New Hampshire in an America East game at RAC Arena.

UMBC improved to 3-13 (1-2 in the conference) with the win. The Retrievers had been close throughout the skid, with four of their losses by less than 10 points. In fact, six of the team's 13 losses this year have been by fewer than 10 points.

Cook played a big role in this win. He came up with three crucial put-backs in the second half as UMBC took control. The senior guard made a great play on one, missing a free throw, then cutting through the lane to grab the rebound and make the easy lay-up.

Cook was one of four UMBC players who scored in double figures. Brett Roseboro scored 13 while Adrian Satchell and Chase Plummer each added 11.

Brian Neller scored eight points, but all of those came in the second half as UMBC slowly pulled away to give Acting Head Coach Aki Thomas his first conference victory.
