GOP Takes Aim at Tornado Disaster Victims

The GOP takes a hard right on emergency assistance to places like Joplin, MO.

House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R - VA) told the Huffington Post that the federal government should not provide aid to places like Joplin, MO, which was ravaged by a tornado this week, unless Congress finds offsets to pay for it.

This, coupled with the Rep. Paul Ryan (R - WI) plan to destroy Medicare in order to save it (which passed the House with only four Republicans voting against it), should just about seal the fate of the Tea Party lead GOP in the coming 2012 election.

While many Americans do not like "big government," few want programs and assistance that help them eliminated.  And very few are as heartless as Cantor seems to be when it comes to providing emergency aid to people pulverized by a natural disaster.

Now, it must be remembered that the GOP will be running against a Democratic Party that loves to spend on programs that they believe create jobs and help the unfortunate.

What do the Democrats have to show for themselves?  They can point to an auto industry bail out that is not only being paid back ahead of schedule, but is also creating thousands of jobs in such economically hard hit places as Michigan

Both sides are hunkering down for a battle Royale in 2012.  The first skirmish was a special House election fought this week in New York.  The  Democratic candidate beat the Republican in an historically Republican district.  The main issue was the Paul Ryan Medicare privatization plan.

Now with Cantor's latest misstep regarding  federal aid to Joplin, the GOP will have a lot of explaining to do.  But they must be careful in what they say or the will drive the Tea Party bonkers.  Still, I am betting the Democrats will be all ears.
