UMBC Grad Robbed at Gunpoint

Incident happened Sunday night on campus.

A UMBC graduate was robbed at gunpoint while visiting the campus Sunday night, according to Paul Dillon, deputy chief of campus police.

Around 11 p.m. Sunday, the former student was walking by the Engineering building near the construction of the new performing arts center. He was approached by an unidentified black male wearing a white sweat suit and hoodie who displayed a black handgun and demanded his wallet.

The suspect took an unknown amount of cash and tossed the wallet to the ground. The victim could not determine whether the gun was a semi-automatic or a revolver.

An alert was issued by UMBC police about 30 minutes after the incident, Dillon says.

Although UMBC is on spring break until next week, a small number of students remain on the campus over the holiday.
