Lansdowne Team Wins Personal Finance Competition

Vikings are Annual Personal Finance Challenge state champs for second year running.

For the second year in a row, a team from Lansdowne High School won the Maryland State Championship at the 3rd Annual Personal Finance Challenge, Monday at Towson University.

The team of four Lansdowne seniors - Mike Delair, Mandela Jones, Jordan Thomas and Evan Richards - beat 24 other teams from across the state, including public and private schools. The students are enrolled in the school’s Academy of Finance.

The Lansdowne Vikings grabbed place in the preliminary rounds, where team members had to answer questions covering three different personal finance categories.

The top two teams, using a combined scoring method, squared off in a quiz bowl round for the championship.  After falling behind early in the quiz bowl round, Lansdowne then reeled off eight straight correct answers to seal the victory.

Each team member won a $500 US Savings Bond and will travel to St. Louis, MO, to compete in the national championship in May.
