Lansdowne Middle Receives Instrumental Gift

Twenty-seven refurbished musical instruments donated to school.

Members of the nonprofit Pass the Music On! visited Lansdowne Middle School on Oct. 20 to donate 27 refurbished band and orchestra instruments.

Based in Frederick, Md., the organization solicits the donation of musical instruments and provides them to schools in need throughout the Baltimore-Washington area. The instruments were refurbished by Music & Arts.

The donation included violins and other stringed instruments, clarinets and oboes, and drums.

"This is great," sayd Christopher Bunn, the school's fine arts director. "Most students can't afford their own instruments. This will be an upgrade for a lot of students who are just hanging on with older instruments."

The group Alternate Route performed for a roomful of appreciative students, and patiently answered questions about practicing, performing and favorite artists.
