The Perry Hall school is one of 10 schools piloting a program to use digital learning devices for Baltimore County students.

Students at Joppa View Elementary School in Perry Hall will be wired very soon—but not on sugar or caffeine.

Ten of the more than 100 elementary schools in Baltimore County were selected as "Lighthouse Schools" to pilot a program that sets out to put electronics in the hands of every BCPS student by the 2017-2018 school year.

The program is called Students and Teachers Accessing Tomorrow (STAT), and will gradually introduce digital learning technology—tablets, educational software and other computer devices—in order to bring twenty-first technology into the classroom.

"Our community is very excited about this opportunity," said Joppa View principal J. Scott Palmer. "We look forward to working with our staff and students to move learning forward as we increase student engagement and achievement."

The STAT program not only introduces students to modern technology, but allows teachers to personalize the learning experience for each students and to collect data about classroom performance in real time, according to BCPS.
