Traffic Signal Activated on Southwestern Boulevard

Light will flash yellow until becoming operational on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Elected officials and representatives from community groups were on hand Friday when Del. James Malone flipped a switch to turn on the new traffic signal installed at Southwestern Boulevard and Linden Avenue.

The light is intended to ease the flow of traffic through Arbutus by commuters from the MARC Halethorpe Station to the inner loop of the beltway.

After a ceremonial ribbon-cutting and flipping a switch in a nearby control box, the traffic began blinking yellow in all directions—which is how it will remain until the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 8.

According to State Highway Administration district engineer David Peake, the signal will flash red during most hours, and be fully operational from 3-7 p.m., during the commuter rush hour.
