Summer Swelter Brings Code Orange Air Quality Alerts

Maryland Department of the Environment officials warn that air pollution could adversely affect children, seniors and those with heart and respiratory conditions.

The Maryland Department of the Environment has issued code orange air quality warnings for Thursday and Friday for all but three counties in Maryland.

On Thursday, the state predicts that ozone concentrations will make the air quality unhealthy for people more sensitive to such conditions, including children, seniors, asthmatics and those with heart or lung disease could be affected by air pollution on that day.

Those conditions are expected to continue into Friday.

Rain and the potential for severe storms on Saturday could help improve air quality conditions this weekend, according to a statement issued by the Maryland Department of the Environment.
