Checking in with road and projects in the area.

Progress on replacement of the Frederick Road bridge over the I-695 beltway is beginning to take some recognizable shape. Work the $13.7 million project began last fall and is expected to conclude in fall of 2013.

The new bridge will be wider and longer--to accomodate widening of the beltway planned for the future, according to state highway officials--and realigned the exit and entrance ramps.

Casting of the footings for the northern side of the bridge are nearly complete. Frederick road is being widened by a lane, with a turn lane on the approach to the entrance ramp and space to facilitate westbound turns from the exit ramp.
