Owings Mills Man Sentenced in Child Porn Case

A 21-year-old man posed as an FBI agent online to convince underage girls to expose themselves on camera, the U.S. Attorney's office in Baltimore says.

An Owings Mills man was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by 25 years of supervised release, for possession of child pornography, a United States Attorney's Office statement said.

Scott Seidel, 21, also must register as a sex offender once released, in accordance with the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, the statement said.

On several occasions he contacted girls through a website intended for users between the ages of 13-to-19-years-old and told them he was an FBI agent who was tracking a hacker, the statement said, citing Seidel's plea agreement.

He would then tell the girls to expose themselves or perform other explicit acts, at least in one case doing so by threatening to send the FBI to her home and by claiming that she needed to play along with the hacker to give the FBI more time to track him down, the statement said.

Law enforcement found "numerous images of teenage girls with whom he would chat while pretending to be an FBI agent" on Seidel's laptop, the U.S. Attorney's statement said. Authorities also found at least 75 images of "nude or partially nude" children on the laptop, the statement said.
