Sullivan Named Officer of the Month

"Conscientious officer" patrols high-crime areas.

Officer John Sullivan was named Officer of the Month for January in Baltimore County Police Department's Precinct 1, and was honored for the distinction recently at the monthly meeting of the Wilkens Police Community Relations Organization.

"Officer Sullivan is a conscientious officer who aggressively patrols high-crime areas," precinct commander Capt. John Spiroff said in presenting  a certificate to Sullivan at the meeting.

During the month of January, Sullivan chalked up 61 traffic citations, issued 40 warnings, conducted four felony arrests and four misdemeanor arrests. Following up on a report of suspicious people loading air conditioners into a vehicle. By the time Sullivan arrived, the vehicle was gone. Sullivan decided to pay a visit to a local scrap dealer, and located the vehicle. The officer investigated and questioned the suspects, leading to two people being arrested and the recovery of several stolen air conditioner units.

In another example cited by Spiroff, Sullivan was on routine patrol on Route 40 when he found a car with a suspended registration. Sullivan stopped the car and detected a strong odor of marijuana. After having the driver exit the vehicle, Sullivan seized marijuana and arrested the driver.
