Spiroff Leaving as Precinct 1/Wilkens Commander

Longtime commander will lead Criminal Investigation Division. New commander, Capt. Douglas Irwin, takes helm on Oct. 22.

Capt. John Spiroff, longtime commander of the Precinct 1/Wilkens station, is being transferred from his position and assigned to lead the Baltimore County Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division, according to police spokeswoman Cpl. Cathleen Batton.

Beginning Oct. 22, the new commander of Precinct 1/Wilkens will be Capt. Douglas Irwin, a 20-year department veteran who presently commands the department's Internal Affairs Division.

Spiroff has been an officer with the Baltimore County Police Department for 30 years and commander of Precinct 1/Wilkens for 14 years.

Lorna Rudnikas, president of the Wilkens Police Community Relations Organization, said that Spiroff has served longer at Precinct 1/Wilkens than any officer at any precinct in the county.

"We're going to miss him, no doubt about that," Rudnikas said. "Precinct 1 has been well-served under his leadership."
