What's going on around here? This story has been posted some 35 minutes and nobody has made a snide remark about the criminal's race? Is everyone out Christmas shopping or something?
Mike McAuliffe December 10, 2011 at 04:56 am
Sean, It looks as though you are the first one to notice the man's race and the first one to make a snide remark. Maybe you are looking at race as an issue more so than your Patch friends are. One or two people had some rude racial comments to say on the Patch sometime ago and you keep hanging at their back gate begging them to come out and play with you again. Why don't you just give up calling them and just ride your tricycle all by yourself. Besides these are the bad boys of the neighborhood and will only get you in trouble. Do you really think you can solve any race relations problems through verbal sparring with them over a chat line. You don't even know their real names or if they are even real people or even real views. Maybe you changed their views and they are out buying Christmas presents for all the folks they are reconciling with now.

Mike, whether I am the "first one to notice the man's race" (it was mentioned in the story, after all, so someone else like the police must have noticed), may or may not be true, but you are right that I am goading "them". I thought I'd beat the usual suspects to the boards. It's a forum and I post on it. That is what it is for.
Mike McAuliffe December 10, 2011 at 01:29 pm
Sean, Of course you are goading them, but the conversations on the racial subjects with some of the folks went straight down the toilet. And what I mean by that is that the bantering reminded me of school yard kids arguing and name calling. I followed the conversations for entertainment purposes, not agreeing with or defending anyone's position, but for someone who engages mostly in intelligent conversation in these posts I found it surprising that you would have spend so much of your time throwing rocks back and forth in the school yard when there was good debate taking place in the school's lecture halls. I sense that you have very liberal (oops! progressive) views so I felt compelled to pick on you. But hey, if you got as much entertainment from engaging in the bantering as I did following it, by all means goad the guys. Hopefully they come out to lay. Sorry to interruption.

So, if you (God forbid) are possibly robbed in the future and the police ask you if you can identify the perpetrator so that it can be helpfully put in an all points bulletin to warn the rest of our population of all races, creeds, and denominations, just simply answer "...duhhhh, I don't know..." and everyone will be so much happier trying to "guess" who to look out for....and, that way you can also be very, very sure that no one can accuse you of any bad racial thoughts. And, that way, it makes the police job so much easier, don't cha think???
Mike McAuliffe December 10, 2011 at 01:48 pm
Oops! I meant "come out to play" not "lay".

Lorna, I am not opposed to the police including the criminal's race in the description. In fact, I find it idiotic when it is not included (when known). The Sun often does that. No, I was just commenting on how some people on this forum will take the race of one criminal and use it as a broad brush against everyone else that happens to be the same color as the criminal.

Mike, all fair points and well taken.
I am very close to stopping all political discussion on this forum. I may continue to blog about my other interests, but I am not sure how much time I'll have. We'll see. I live in this area and I don't really want to get into rough and tumble arguments with people (whether they are real or using fake names). Life is hard enough and, as you say, I am not going to change anyone's mind, so why ruffle their feathers? I could use a pseudonym as some do. I mean, if it was good enough for the authors of the Federalist Papers, well. But really laying into people behind a pseudonym isn't my style.

All, see the "Political Correctness" lobe of the liberal brain for why Sean posts what he does. He is truly a drone controlled by the extreme left.

Sean paints the broad brush of the patch readers and then blames the patch readers for painting the broad brush....LOL. Liberals never cease to amaze with their "logic"!
Lorna D. Rudnikas December 10, 2011 at 06:27 pm
As always, my responses of discontent go to the constant name-calling, school yard bantering garbaaage that seems to leak into conversations. If we all could just avoid that avenue and express our concerns/ideas it would be so nice. And, finally, hope you don't stop expressing your ideas and especially, hope your don't get upset because others express their ideas as well--even though they may be far and away from yours, honey child.
Lorna D. Rudnikas December 10, 2011 at 06:42 pm
And, one more thing Sean, I continue to enjoy our interchanges...only get in a tizzy when you "paint your broad brush" honey child.
Sean Tully December 10, 2011 at 11:32 pm
Lorna, I thought you believed that I thought the race of a wanted criminal should not be added to the description. I don't.
As for name calling, I am not sure I called anyone a name (no poster, that is). I do call national figures names, but that is only because I can't draw political cartoons. If I could, I'd riducule them that way. I appreciate that you appreciate me expressing my thoughts, etc. (if that makes sense), but if I stop it wouldn't be so much because of any disagreements I have with reasonable people, like yourself and Buzz, but more because of people like MTH. They really aren't worth the time. And, besides, I have a lot of other things that I'm doing that takes my time.

I guess Sean doesn't like a spade being called a spade. He's going to take his ball and go home. Sorry Sean, forums aren't a monopoly.....
Sean Tully December 11, 2011 at 03:13 pm
MTH, I am all for debating issues. I don't think I am the issue. You do. I can't stop you from that, but I certainly am not going to engage you in your obsession.
MTH December 11, 2011 at 04:28 pm
Sean, you're so typical of the left.
Sean Tully December 12, 2011 at 12:49 am
MTH, how? What topic would you like to discuss that I am avoiding?
MTH December 12, 2011 at 02:18 am
The real question is, what topic are you discussing? I think (based on the first post) that your topic of discussion is that all people that read Patch articles are racist? Like I said Sean, you're so typical of the left.
Sean Tully December 12, 2011 at 02:53 am
To repeat myself, no, I don't think "all people that read Patch articles are racists". I was just commenting on how some people on this forum will take the race of one criminal and use it as a broad brush against everyone else that happens to be the same color as the criminal.
