Police Blotter: Arrest in Convenience Store Robberies

Lansdowne Man Charged in Convenience Store Robberies

Baltimore County police have arrested a Landowne man and charged him with a series of convenience store robberies in Catonsville.

On Nov. 22 at 7:45 a.m., a suspect walked into the 7-Eleven located on the 1600-block of Edmondson Avenue.

According to police, the suspect squeezed the buttocks of the store clerk handed her a note and demanded money. During the robbery, the suspect kept his right hand in his pocket, suggesting that he had a gun. The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, 6' tall and 230 pounds, wearing a purple hat, gray sweatshirt and black pants. He fled the scene in an orange-and-white County Cab.

At 12:20 p.m., the suspect walked into the 7-Eleven on the 400-block of  Frederick Road and demanded money from the cashier. The store employee said she didn't have any money, and the suspect left empty-handed.

Fifteen minutes, the suspect walked into the Royal Farms on the 500-block of Edmondson Avenue and handed the cashier a note. According to the police report, the suspect got startled and ran out the front door, heading east on Edmondson Avenue in a County Cab.

At 12:40 p.m. the same suspect returned to the 7-Eleven on on the 400-block of Frederick Road and entered the store, but was arrested by police.

Stephen James Hughes, 34, of the 500-block of Fifth Avenue in Lansdowne, was charged in the robberies.

Riverview Juvenile Charged in Assault

A female juvenile was arrested by county police and charged after an altercation with her godfather on the 3000-block of Bero Road in Riverview at aroud 10:21 p.m. on Nov. 14. According to police, the female was upset because her godfather would not let her go to East Baltimore and used a knife with a 4-inch blade to damage the man's vehicle.

The female also slashed at the man, who was not injured. However, his cell phone was damaged during the incident. Police charged the female, whose name was not released, with first-degree assault and destruction of property.

Car Theft in Riverview

A grey four-door Accura Legend was stolen from the 2900-block of Bero Road in Riverview at some time between 8:30 on Nov. 18 and 6 a.m. the following morning, according to police.

Man Robbed at Gunpoint on Bero Road

At around 5:45 a.m. on Nov. 19, a 17-year-old victim reported to police that he was standing in front of his residence on the 700-block of Fifth Avenue in Riverview wnen an unknown suspect approached, pushed him against a wall and pointed a black handgun at him.

The suspect reportedly took a cell phone, then drove off in a Chevy Astro van toward Hollins Ferry Road.

Burglaries in the Area

Nov. 18: A 22-year-old woman who lives on the 2900-block of Lakebrook Circle in Lansdowne told police that she came home at 7 p.m. the previous evening and found her ex-boyfriend sitting in her livingroom. He left the residence whens he called the police. Nothing was stolen.

Nov. 18: At around 8:41 p.m., a juvenile male suspect unlocked a garage door on the 5000-block of Highview in Arbutus and took a 2007 Yamaha dirt bike. The suspect, whose identity was not released by police was stopped about a block away and arrested.

Nov. 19: Between 3:30-3:45 a.m., a man left his red scooter in his yard in front of his house on the 400-block of Bigley Avenue in Lansdowne, and when he returned to get his scooter a few minutes later it was gone. Police have no suspects in the base.

Nov. 20: At around 4:17 p.m., an unknown person entered a residence on the 1800-block of Fairview Avenue in Halethorpe through an unlocked front door, but ran off when dogs started barking. The suspect ran toward Washington Boulevard. Nothing was stolen.

Nov. 21: Between 3-8 a.m., an unknown person forced open a shed on the 5000-block of Viaduct Avenue in Relay and took a weed whacker and gas can.

Nov. 21: Between 3 p.m. on Nov. 20 and 5 a.m. on the 21st, an unknown person cut the hasp and lock to the back door of a residence on the 5000-block of Hazel Avenue in Lansdowne, but did not take anything.

Nov. 21: Between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m., an unknown person entered a residence on the 2000 block of Putnam Road in Halethorpe through an unlocked kitchen door. The suspect ransacked the residence and took five swords, two cameras, a pool stick, a laptop computer and an autographed baseball.

Nov. 21: At around 5:50 p.m., the former boyfriend of a resident on the 3000-block of Bero Road in Riverview broke into her residence through a bedroom window. Once inside, he stole frozen burgers and destroyed a phone and a shot glass before leaving on foot.

Nov. 23: Between 1:30-11:55 p.m., an unknown person forced open the front window and unlocked the front door of a residence on the 4000-block of Twin Circle Way in Baltimore Highlands. Once inside, the suspect ransacked the residence and took a television set, four video game systems, two DVD players, and various toys and clothing. The suspect fled through a rear door.

Nov. 24: At some time since Nov. 19, an unknown person cut a lock on a shed behind a residence on the 5000-block of Oregon Drive in Arbutus and took two red gas cans filled with fuel.

Nov. 24: At around 2:20 p.m., two suspects walked into the Fresh Food Mart on the 3000-block of Hollins Ferry Road in Lansdowne. While one suspect created a diversion, the other entered an unsecured employees-only area and burgled the office safe. Police did not report whether any money was taken. The suspects are described as black males, 5' 9" and 160-170 pounds, wearing skull caps and jeans.

Nov. 25: At some point between 6:15-8 p.m., an unknown person broke the door of a residence on the 1800-block of Fairview in Halethorpe. Nothing was taken from the residence.

Nov. 26: At some time between 11 a.m. and 10:45 p.m., an unknown person entered an apartment on the 2900-block of Charleston Avenue in Lansdowne by cutting a screen and opening a rear window. Once inside the residence, two video game systems and a television set were stolen.

Nov. 26: At around 3:20 p.m., an unknown person pried open a rear window of Waco Products on the 1330-block of Knecht Avenue in Arbutus. Once inside the business, a desk drawer was pried open and a petty cash box removed. An undisclosed amount of money was taken before the suspect left by a rear bay door.
