Man Socked With Shoplifting Charges

Ronnie Willis Cheek of Greenbelt, 42, charged with giving a false name to officers after arrest for shoplifting at Walmart.

A Greenbelt man faces charges after being caught shoplifting at the Lansdowne Station Walmart on Sept. 11, police said.

According to police, at around 3:12 p.m. Ronnie Willis Cheek, 42, of the unit block of Plateau Place, was observed by the store's loss prevention staff taking a pack of socks, concealing them inside his shorts, and walking past the registers without paying.

Cheek was detained and the property was recovered, police said.

He is also charged with making a false statement after initially giving police officers an incorrect name and date of birth when arrested, according to police

Court records show that Cheek has at least one outstanding warrant for violation of probation.

According to the Falls Church News-Post, in 2010 Cheek was responsible for a wave of petty thefts from cars and gym lockers in the District of Columbia and suburban Virginia and Maryland communities.
