Man Injured in Fall Down Elevator Shaft

A delivery person was hurt on Friday in fall at a Pikesville business.

UPDATE 4:15 P.M. --The driver was making a delivery around 7:22 a.m. Friday at Cummins when the incident took place. He fell out of a delivery elevator and 12 feet down the shaft.

Louise Rogers-Feher, spokesperson for Baltimore County Public Safety, said that it took about 30 minutes to get him out of the shaft. The access was easy as the store owner was able to secure the elevator so the rescue could take place.

The patient was conscious and talking, but was taken to Shock Trauma with serious injuries.

Michael Schwartzberg of the Pikesville Volunteer Fire Company said his group was on the scene and its ambulance took the man to the hospital. PVFC also had several Confined Space Team members there, but they were eventually not needed.

Rogers-Feher said that the police and OSHA were investigating the accident on Friday.
