Fire-Rescue Log: Inhalation Injury From Household Chemical Mixture

During the period Sept. 2-9, AVFD received 86 calls for medical and fire-rescue service, including the following:

Sept. 3: At 11:0 a.m., a motor vehicle accident with injuries was reported on Wilkens Avenue at Leeds Avenue in Arbutus. Crews from the AVFD responded and transported two people with non-life-threatening injuries to a local hospital.

Sept. 3: At 11:56 p.m., an inhalation subject was reported on the 1200 block of Poplar Ave. in Arbutus. Crews from AVFD responded to find a person experiencing trouble breathing as a result of mixing household chemicals. One seriously ill person was taken to a local hospital.

Sept. 7: At 12:05 p.m., an apartment fire was reported on the 900 block of Walker Ave. in Catonsville. Crews from the Arbutus and Violetville volunteer stations and Catonsville, Halethorpe and Westview career stations responded to find a Freon leak creating a haze in the building, but no fire.

Sept. 8: At 1:59 a.m., an apartment fire was reported on the 6200 block of Greenfield Road in Howard County. Crews from the AVFD and Halethorpe career stations responded to assist Howard County units. A malfunctioning dishwasher was found, but no fire.

Sept. 8: At 10:12 p.m., a dumpster fire was reported on the 4600 block of Wilkens Ave. in Arbutus. Crews from AVFD responded and extinguished the fire.
