Ellicott City Woman Killed in Collision Saturday in Arbutus

Maryland State Police said Abida M. Iqbal, 49, was pronounced dead at St. Agnes Hospital.

Abida M. Iqbal, 49, of Ellicott City, died Saturday in a crash on Interstate 95 in Arbutus.

At 12:16 a.m. Saturday, Maryland State Police responded to a report of a vehicle collision near exit No. 49, according to a news release Saturday afternoon by Maryland State Police.

Iqbal, a passenger in a Toyota Camry, was ejected from the car during the crash with a Ford Escape, and was taken to St. Agnes Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police stated in a press release.

At 12:38 a.m., she was pronounced dead at the hospital, police stated.

The investigation shows that Iqbal was the right, rear passenger in the car that was traveling in the third lane, southbound on I-95, just before the exit.

"For reasons unclear at this time, the Toyota turned left, perpendicular to the roadway, crossed lane two and then into lane one where it was struck on the driver’s side quarter-panel area by a Ford Escape traveling southbound," the release states.

No one in the Ford was injured, but the other three people in the Toyota—all related to one another—were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma, police stated.

Police continue to investigate.
