City Youth Charged in Baltimore Highlands Assault

A 16-year-old East Baltimore youth is being charged as an adult for an assault in Baltimore Highlands that sent a 39-yea -old victim to the hospital with skull fractures, according to police.

Police charged Alfredo Lopez, of the 200-block of Chapel Street in Baltimore, with first-degree assault.

At around 4:51 a.m. on March 18, Lopez attacked a 39-year-old man in front of a residence on the 4000-block of Twin Circle Way in Baltimore Highlands, police said.

According to police, Lopez punched and kicked the victim's head and face. The police report indicates that offices believed the victim sustained fractures of the skull and orbital region around the eye.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown.

While being taken into custody, Lopez reportedly began kicking the passenger side window to the patrol car, pushing the window out of its track.

Police spokeswoman Detective Cathleen Batton said that Lopez was also charged with malicious destruction of property for damaging the police car.

Batton said that Lopez was released on $25,000 bail.

According to police, the victim was from Bridgeport, WA. The reason for his presence in Baltimore Highlands and the cause of the altercation with Lopez are not known, Batton said.
