Criminal justice student, Emily Boller of Catonsville, first recipient of scholarship from Wilkens Police Community Relations Organization

Catonsville resident Emily Boller, a freshman criminal justice student at Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), received the first-ever academic scholarship awarded by Wilkens Police Community Relations Organization (WPCRO).

Boller received a $250 tuition reimbursement for the Fall 2010 semester, and will receive a $500 tuition reimbursement for the Spring 2011 semester, according to WPCRO president Lorna Rudnikas.

Β A group focused on addressing law enforcement concerns in the county police's Precinct One -- which includes Southwest Baltimore County up to Route 40 -- WPCRO began the scholarship last year to steer youth toward a career in law enforcement.

"This is a big deal for our organization," Rudkinas says. "This is the first time we've reached out to the community to encourage young people to a career in law enforcement."

The scholarship is available to students enrolled in the School of Justice at CCBC. Candidates must maintain a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) while taking classes full-time.
