The investigation of the case led to Buck, who eventually confessed to the crime, officials said.

Buck admitted to beating and strangling Rasmussen, as well as attempting to cover up the crime, according to an ABC2 television news report at the time.

A family blog post of July 8, 2010, referred to Buck as a "spurned suitor/neighbor" and mentioned the "excellent" memorial service for Rasmussen that helped provide closure to family members.

On Jan. 9, Buck pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
