Updated: Robbery Suspect Shot After Chase Into Baltimore Highlands

High-speed chase through Anne Arundel County and Baltimore City ends violently near Baltimore Highland Elementary School.

2:20 p.m. Update: A 19-year-old suspect, who rammed police cars and pointed a gun out the window at police during a high-speed chase through multiple jurisdictions, was shot by police officers as the pursuit came to an end in Baltimore Highlands this morning.

According to police, at around 11:08 a.m., Anne Arundel police spotted a white Chevy Malibu in the vicinity of Solomon's Island Road matching the description of a vehicle linked to the armed robbery of a convenience store in the Precinct 1/Wilkens area last night.

Officers attempted unsuccessfully to stop the vehicle, police said.

While traveling northbound on I-97, the suspect held a handgun out the window, according to police.The suspect's vehicle sped up I-97 to the Beltway, down Annapolis Road into Baltimore City, where the driver turned around onto Washington Boulevard and headed back south, turning onto Lansdowne Road and back onto Annapolis Road toward Anne Arundel County, according to police sources.

Vehicles from Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, Baltimore City and Maryland State Police participated in the chase, according to officials.

The pursuit ended when the suspect's vehicle turned at Virginia Avenue, near Baltimore Highlands Elementary School, and struck an Anne Arundel police vehicle at the intersection of Fenor Road.

According to police, the suspect exited the vehicle armed with a handgun pointed at his own head. Officers ordered him to drop the gun. He refused and pointed the gun at police. A Baltimore County officer and an Anne Arundel County officer fired their service weapons, striking the suspect in the lower body, according to police.

The suspect was transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at University of Maryand, officials said.

An Anne Arundel County officer received minor injuries when his vehicle was struck by the suspect's vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The suspect's identity has not yet been released by the police. The incident is still under investigation, and charges are pending.

12: 08 p.m.: A suspect in an armed robbery of an Anne Arundel County bank was shot by police after a pursuit on Annapolis Road into Baltimore Highlands by Maryland State Police and Baltimore County officers.

Schools in the area were briefly on lock-down, according to officials

Shortly after 11 a.m., police were in pursuit of a white Chevy Impala used by suspects in a bank robbery, officials said.

The chase down Annapolis Road ended at Virginia Avenue and Fenor Road, where one suspect reportedly threw a gun as he bailed the car, according to police

One suspect was shot in the leg and was transported by MSP medivac helicopter from the Baltimore Highlands Elementary School athletic field, police said.

All public schools were briefly on lock-down. According to a person answering the phone at Baltimore Highlands Elementary, the lockdown lasted about 10-15 minutes beginning at around 11:30 a.m.
