AVFD Receives New Rescue Vehicle

New heavy rescue truck will cost about $700,000 when fully equipped.

Members of Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department got a look at their new heavy rescue vehicle when it was brought to the firehouse on Sept. 21.

The truck has a price tag of about $650,000, which will total about $750,000 when fully decked out with equipment and gear.

The new vehicle replaces a 20-year-old truck that has neared the end of its useful life of service, according to AVFD President John McDowell.

According to AVFD Chief Douglas Simpkins, the new vehicle features state-of-the-art safety equipment, including air bags and a rear-view video camera.

The rescue squad vehicle will be put in service once it has been equipped and drivers have had an opportunity to get trained behind the wheel, Simpkins said.
