AVFD Fire-Rescue Log: Swift Water Rescue on Annapolis Road

During the period Oct. 28-Nov. 4, AVFD received 108 calls for medical and fire-rescue service, including the following:

Oct. 29: At 8:21 a.m., a dwelling fire was reported on the 200 block of Shadynook Ct. in Catonsville. Crews from the Arbutus and Violetville volunteer stations and Catonsivlle and Westview career stations responded to find smoke in the basement from an overheated sump pump, but no fire.

Oct. 29: At 5:33 p.m., a dwelling fire was reported on the 1900 block of Victory Dr. in Halethorpe. Crews from the Arbutus and Lansdowne volunteer stations and Halethorpe career station responded to find an overheated ceiling fan, but no fire.

Oct. 29: At 8:18 p.m., an apartment fire was reported on the unit block of Fallen Tree Ct. in Halethorpe. Crews from the Arbutus and Violetville volunteer stations and Halethorpe career station responded to an unfounded incident.

Oct. 30: At 1:03 a.m., a swift water rescue was reported on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard at the Anne Arundel County line. Crews from the English Consul and Arbutus volunteer stations and Halethorpe career station responded. The Swift Water Rescue Team from Arbutus volunteers assisted with rescuing 3 people from a vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Oct. 31: At 7:20 a.m., a motor vehicle accident with injury was reported on the 4100 block of Wilkens Ave. in Arbutus. Crews from the AVFD and Halethorpe career station responded. Two people with non-life-threatening injuries were taken to a local hospital.

Note: The large volume of calls for the week; a large number were for electrical wires/power lines down and flooded basements due to the hurricane.
