2 Men Injured in Saturday Morning Shooting

The shooter and a Frederick County man were hospitalized after the incident at Depaola's in Arbutus.

A Baltimore man is charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot a man working security at DePaola’s in Arbutus early Saturday morning.

Police were called to DePaola’s Pub, in the 1400 block of Sulphur Spring Road, Saturday morning around 2 a.m. They found the victim, Carl Linton, 23, of Clear Spring, MD, suffering from gunshot wounds. The shooter, identified as Derrick Joseph Leonard, 34, of the 2600 block of Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore, was being held there, according to a police press release.

Investigation showed that Linton was working security at the bar and was trying to escort Leonard when he was shot. Linton immediately retreated into the bar, where the shooter followed him and fired additional shots. Patrons at the bar subdued the shooter and held him until police arrived, the release said.

Linton was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, said Julia Hardgrove, a police spokeswoman. Leonard, who was intoxicated, was also transported to an area hospital for injuries. He is charged with attempted first-degree murder and use of a firearm. Leonard is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center in Towson. Bail has been denied, according to police.

A booking photo of Leonard will not be released because the investigation is ongoing, Hardgrove said via email.
