Maryland Food Bank Needs Your Help in Facebook Competition

Seven area non-profits are vying for the most votes in Liberty Mutual Baltimore's "Like My Community" Facebook campaign, which runs now through July 31. Let your voice be heard.

There's a silent war brewing in and around Baltimore— and you’ll have to have access to a computer screen to view it.

Liberty Mutual Baltimore’s “Like My Community” Facebook campaign features seven area non-profits chosen by Liberty Mutual Baltimore agents. Organizations, such as the Maryland Food Bank, are vying from now until July 31 for one of the top three prizes of $30,000. To glimpse the campaign and its war of votes, go to http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/libertybaltimore. There’s an incredible video, too.

Vote for the Maryland Food Bank and you’re not just voting for us. You’re voting for the more than 600 agencies statewide that distribute the food we provide. These organizations include shelters, food kitchens, food pantries and even some animal organizations. They are located in every county except for Prince George’s and Montgomery.

Last year, the Maryland Food Bank was able to provide more than 14 million meals. But as the number and demographics of our state’s hungry grow and change, so does the need for food assistance. For example, approximately 466,000 Marylanders are at risk for hunger. Thirty-percent of these are children. Forty-five percent aren’t even eligible for federal help because they’re incomes are “too high.”

The Maryland Food Bank doesn’t think the “working poor” should be punished. We hope you don’t either. Please join with us in our ongoing efforts to end hunger in Maryland. Thirty-thousand dollars would enable us to provide more than 60,000 meals to our neighbors in need. Help today and every day. Vote for the Maryland Food Bank http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/libertybaltimore and encourage your friends to do the same.
