It's a Crab Feast - It's a Party!

Soroptimist International of Arbutus Annual Crab Feast

The local volunteer group, Soroptimist of Arbutus (SI Arbutus), is holding their 2nd Annual Crab Feast on August 20, 2011.  This is a “Fun”draiser with proceeds benefitting the good works of this non-profit group that has been serving the community since 1965.

This event is being held at The Arbutus Town Hall, 1349 Stevens Ave from 1-5 p.m. and the $45.00 ticket price includes all the crabs you can eat.  These crabs will be steamed on site and are being provided by the renowned Harris Crab House from just over the bridge on the Eastern Shore. http://www.harriscrabhouse.com/.  The ticket price includes pit beef, ham and turkey along with sodas and beer.  Dance to the great music provided by DJ5 of Beat2Beat DJs http://www.beat2beatdjs.com/index2.php.

Nancy Hackley, VP of SI Arbutus is also the chair of this event.  “This is a great price for a crab feast,” Nancy said.  “We have tickets remaining, but they are going fast, so buy them soon!  In addition to great food and music we hope to have plenty of door prizes to hand out to lucky attendees.”

I attended this last year and it was a blast.  This year I have almost achieved a full two tables of friends and family, and hope to get lucky and exceed that goal.  I can guarantee the fun part of fundraiser and you may rely on that as I am an old party girl from way back.  (Watch the commentary.)

I admit to being biased as I am a member of this non-profit that been doing good work in Southwest Baltimore County since 1965. Our history has been blessed with the leadership of some remarkable women.  The club’s charter was Betty Riedel, well known and respected in this community as a successful business woman and as a long standing community activist.  Dr. Edna May Merson was a charter member who remains on the roster today.  Dr. Merson was born and raised in Lansdowne and taught in area schools for 41 years, retiring as the principal of Lansdowne Elementary.  You might be surprised how many Soroptimists you know or have known!
