Ahhh- Spring in Arbutus.....All is well!!

Spring - the special touch that the Arbutus Arts Festival adds to air - great smells, great sounds, great laughter, great fun for all!

AT LAST !!  – the time of year that truly confirms Spring is here – the Arbutus Arts Festival is peeking up on the horizon!  Sunday, May 15----Yeahhhhhh!!!  What a wondrous, fun, colorful, small town America feeling –a day to leave the worries behind, the outside world doesn’t  intrude.  Folks are leisurely walking, talking, smiling, laughing heartily, and eating all kinds of fun foods.  Children laughing, jumping, hopping and funny, I hardly ever hear a baby crying—they are looking around in wonderment or sound asleep in their strollers.  The music starts and keeps everything hopping. Del. James Malone greets everyone and steers them to all the delightful activities.  All kinds of colorful handmade wood works, paintings, clothing, on and on…..

It is so nice to recognize folks that work in Arbutus businesses – covering the pizza stand, the fried dough stand, hot dogs, corn dogs, cotton candy –and don’t forget the painted faces,  and of course the Fire Department and Wilkens Police helping to keep folks safe–

My daughter Camille and I enjoy the opportunity to promote the Wilkens Police & Community Relations Organization (WPCRO) – (table on the main thorough fare near the beer garden and former Highs Store) share information, meet and greet.  At the end of the day – I realize my face muscles are a little sore -  been meeting and greeting and smiling for hours.

Another warm, fuzzy feeling is all the local folks who have worked so hard to make this day a huge successful,  inclusive event---are working through the day to make sure things run smoothly.  You see them in their bright colored TShirts with walkee-talkees in hand.  They never seem to get tired…so organized working from sun up to the last breakdown of tents and farewell until next year.  And then a follow up meeting probably to see what worked, what didn’t work and begin to plan for next year.

Spring is here and I’m lovin it, honey child!!!  See you at the Festival!!!
