Arbutus Librarian Gail Ross Retiring Friday

Gail Ross first began at the Catonsville branch library.

Since 1971, Gail Ross has been working for various branches of the Baltimore County Public Library system.

But this Friday, June 28, Ross will retire after almost 40 years at the BCPL. Ross did not work as a full-time employee until 1987.

"I want the opportunity to enjoy the relaxing retired life, see my children and grandchildren more, have more free time to exercise and travel and read," Ross said in an email.

Manager of the Arbutus and Lansdowne branch libraries, Ross has been at the Arbutus branch for 12 years, where her favorite memory is from a few years ago during the Fall Family Fun Nights.

"They were a blast," Ross said. "We had a bluegrass band, miniature golf in the stacks, carnival games and, one year, we even had Elvis in the building."

After Ross retires, she believes others will remember her for "recognizing the importance of cementing the library to the community by honoring its history," she said.

BCPL branch libraries offer a variety of items and programs for everyone.

Ross says, "The library is too good to miss!"
