Elected officials, law officers and residents talk over crime and quality of life issues.

Monday morning, residents met at Paul's Restaurant with Del. James Malone and Councilman Tom Quirk, along with personnel from the county police's Precinct 1 and UMBC police, to discuss concerns about crime and quality of life issues.

"Crime is excellent in Arbutus," said Capt. John Spiroff, who according to Malone is the only commander in the county to live in his precinct. "Overall, we're doing very well. But one crime is one too many."

Afterward, the group took a walk to the end of East Drive and back. The walk was an opportunity to talk about traffic, loiterers and underage drinking, and provide first-term Quirk with a street-level introduction to the community's concerns.
