Video du Jour: The Arbutus Oak

An odd video for an odd historical place.

Browsing YouTube invariably leads to some entertaining discoveries. The Relay-Halethorpe area, for example, is apparently popular with railroad buffs who record hours of deisel engines and freight cars clankering down tracks. There must be a couple dozen videos of trains at the Halethorpe MARC station.

But one YouTube contributor caught my eye, and not just because of the 1,767 videos BaltimoreAnd OhioRR has uploaded to his account. BaltimoreAnd OhioRR also has the dictinction of having the only video of the Arbutus Oak at YouTube.

It isn't exactly a video, but a series of images from 2007 set to some strange, ear-jarring music. The arrangement is oddly appropriate for the Arbutus Oak, one of the most inaccessible historic spots in America. It's definitely the strangest video about a tree you'll see all week.

In comparing to, it's clear that the area has become overgrown since then. Any civic-minded people interested in joining a clean-up crew to spruce up the Arbutus Oak?
