No Major Hurricane-Related Incidents Reported in Baltimore County

No deaths or injuries reported, nineteen people and four pets housed at emergency shelter

The human toll of hurricane Irene on Baltimore County has been limited so far, according to officials at the county's emergency operations center.

"We've been very quiet on the police and fire side," said spokesperson Elise Armacost. "We really haven't had a lot of problems. It appears that residents are taking our advice, stay at home and keep off the streets."

No hurricane-related deaths of injuries have been reported so far.

The Bay Bridge was closed at around 8 p.m. on Aug 27 due to high winds. According to Maryland State Police, there have been no major incidents on state roads or interstate highways.

As of 12:40 a.m. on Aug. 28 the barometric pressure recorded by RelayWeather.com stood at 29.25 and continues to fall rapidly, indicating that the worst of the storm has not yet passed.

The winds are from the NNE at 21 mph, with gusts as strong as 44 mph, according to RelayWeather.com. About 2.13 inches of rain has fallen since Irene began.

Amacost said that there are reports of flooding in flood-prone parts of the county, particularly in eastern Baltimore County, as well as fallen trees. Many streets are scattered with btanches and debris.

Nineteen people and four pets are being housed at an emergency shelter at Eastern Tech, according to Armacost.
