Memorial Services Held for UMBC Student

Salmaan Sultan, 22, reportedly jumped to death from parking garage Friday night.

Memorial services were held Tuesday afternoon for Salmaan Sultan, a 22-year-old UMBC student who police say jumped to his death from a downtown Baltimore parking garage Friday night.

A memorial service at Borgwardt Funeral Home in Beltsville was followed by a burial service and prayers at Maryland National Memorial Cemetery in Laurel.

Sultan was to graduate from UMBC with a degree in business in August.

Expressions of shock and grief rippled through the UMBC campus and among Sultan’s family and friends. A Facebook group that has grown into a memorial to Sultan has more than 458 members.

“You always knew how to put a smile on my face Salmaan and you had the warmest heart,” wrote UMBC student Carmen Jackman. “The world needs more people like you.”

“I am so blown right now,” wrote Josh Kutscher, who graduated from UMBC in 2007. “I can't believe this is even real...I just wish he knew how much we cared about him.”
