Five Things to Know About Today

An Arbutus Patch guide to your Monday, April 18.

  • The weather forecast calls for rain in the morning that will clear up by the afternoon, with temperatures reaching 66 degrees.
  • Taxes are due for real today.
  • The Department of Natural Resources is sponsoring a contest for anglers who catch and kill snakehead. Prizes include a $200 rod and tackle package, a Maryland State Park Passport and a 2012 Potomac River Fishing license. The difference between a snakehead and the IRS is that one is a remorseless predator with an insatiable appetite and the other is a fish.
  • The 4th Annual Crime Victim's Rights Summit, this year focused on relationship violence, is being held 7-9 p.m. at the UMBC University Center Ballroom and is free and open to the public. This event is co-sponsored by UMBC, Baltimore County Police Department Precinct 1, Wilkens Police Community Relations Organization, Arbutus Business and Professional Association, Lansdowne Business and Professional Association, St. Agnes Hospital and several other organizations in the community.
  • Friends and family of Matthew VanDyke are holding from 6-6:30 this evening near the pavilion at Riverside Park, at Riverside Avenue and East Randall Street in South Baltimore. Writer VanDyke is the UMBC grad missing in Libya since March 13.
