CSX: Ellicott City Derailment Cost $2.2 Million

A complete report could take an entire year, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

CSX has estimated the cost of last week's , and the subsequent clean-up, at $2.2 million, according to a statement from the National Transportation Safety Board.

In addition to the cost, NTSB announced that the initial investigation of signal systems and personnel is complete and all rail equipment was recovered. The time estimate of the derailment was also changed to 11:56 p.m., which is slightly earlier than initial reports.

A preliminary report on the cause of the train derailment is anticipated within the next two weeks, according to The Jacksonville Business Journal. An NTSB spokesperson told The Journal that another more detailed report could take at least a year to be released.
