Clerk Shot in Lansdowne Convenience Store Armed Robbery

Victim was struck in the upper and lower body, and released from Shock Trauma, according to police.

A little more than 90 minutes into the national holiday honoring American workers, a Lansdowne convenience store clerk on his second day at the job was shot twice in a botched armed robbery.

According to police, at around 1:40 a.m. on Monday, a suspect walked into the on the 3800 block of Hollins Ferry Rd., displayed a handgun and demanded money from the clerk.

When the clerk hesitated, the suspect shot the victim in the upper and lower extremities, police said. WJZ-TV reported that the victim had been hit in the shoulder and thigh.

The suspect fled without taking any money, according to police. 

The clerk, described as a male in his 40s, was transported to Shock Trauma and has been released from the hospital, according to police.

According to Samrawit Abay, who was working the day shift at Speedy Mart, the victim was a new employee on his second night working the 12-8 a.m. shift.

Located across the street from Lansdowne High School, the Speedy Mart is on a stretch of Hollins Ferry Road where armed robberies and violent crimes are often reported.

On Aug. 13, accused of orchestrating a robbery spree of stores along Hollins Ferry Road and Patapsco Avenue.

The Speedy Mart was  as recently as July 2. The CVS pharmacy located in the Lansdowne Shopping Center next door was  on Nov. 11 of last year.

Abay, who has worked at Speedy Mart for about a year, said that the area in which the story is located is "very dangerous."

"The problem is the night time," she said. "The morning times, when I work, are quiet."

The suspect in Monday morning's robbery has not been identified, according to police. He is described as a black male, about 5’9” tall and 160 pounds.
