Arbutus Observes Memorial Day

Ceremony at war memorial honors fallen troops.

A Monday morning ceremony at the veteran's memorial and flagpole in the heart of Arbutus paid tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

Members of Dewey Loman Post 109 marches flags past scores of residents who stood in the bright sun, hands over their hearts. A crew from Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department saluted along with veterans and police officers in the crowd.

After a prayer led by Dewey Loman Post chaplain Ed Godman, post second vice commander Pat Miller welcomed those in attendance, followed by remarks from post commander Chuck Catterton, ladies auxiliary president Jean McElroy and Councilman Tom Quirk, who spoke for elected officials present; Dels. James Malone and Steven DeBoy and Sen. Ed Kasemeyer.
