Arbutus Area Irene Update

No electricity at MARC Halethorpe Station

Here's what we know:

Thousands of people are without electricity in southwest Baltimore County. Outages are reported throughout Arbutus, Halethorpe, Relay, Lansdowne, Baltimore Highlands and Catonsville.

According to BGE, about 400,000 customers are without power. Electricity has been restored to about 260,000 customers. Go here to view an outage map and updates. BGE says getting everybody back on the grid may take "multiple days."

Frederick Road has reopened. However, downtown Catonsville is without power from the Beltway to Melvin Avenue, reports editor Penny Riordan at Catonsville Patch.

All of the major avenues in this Patch area are passable. Maiden Choice Lane is blocked by a fallen tree between Wilkens Avenue and Frederick Road.

Many street lights and traffic signals and street lights are out, including along East Drive, Sulphur Spring Road and Wilkens Avenue.

Baltimore County schools are closed on Monday.

Power has been restored to UMBC and school will be open on Monday.

State employees are on a liberal leave policy.

MTA says that the MARC Camden line will be operating on Monday, but the Penn line's Halethorpe Station has no electricity. "Be careful Monday a.m.," the MTA alert says. Go here for the latest updates.

Businesses along Washington Boulevard, including Home Depot and Walmart, are open. So is Sorrento in Arbutus.
