Circle Terrace Issues Addressed

Circle Terrace improvements

At last night's meeting of the Lansdowne Improvememt Association representatives of the management of the Circle Terrace Apartment Complex were present.

For those who are not informed, Circle Terrace is a development composed of 100% Section 8 housing residents. It is located along Charlston Avenue and Bero Roads on the Lansdowne Riverview border.

This property has been a major problem in our community for many years. Approximately 72 percent  of all crime occurring in the community is directly related to Circle Terrace.

The police department has tried to address the issues concerning this develepmont since 2005 when Captain John Spiroff, commander of the Wilkins Precinct made it a priority under his watch.

Unfortunately past management has failed to implement the procedures required to address the detrimental effect of this property in our hometown. New management assured the community last night that there will a change. New initiatives will be implemented and a tougher policy will be put into place. New security systems will be installed as well as tougher eviction policies.

The newly elected board of the LIA under the direction of President-Elect Brian Bailey intends to make Circle Terrace a priority and one of many issues concerning the revitilization of Lansdowne.  Our hope is to improve communications with management and the police department.

We have hopes that the changes needed will be occurring and taken seriously by the management of this develepment. Councilman Tom Quirk has heard the call for  a more committed approach  in addressing this serious condition in our community and is responding.

As a community activist and Vice President-Elect of the LIA, I look forward to moving on to a more hopeful outcome so that the reputation of our community will be restored and our residents will have a better quality of life.
