Interest High in Superfresh Location

Upscale markets among companies checking out site.

As the automatic doors near closing for the last time, Arbutus residents concerned about the loss of the landmark Superfresh on East Drive may be relieved to know that the property will likely not remain vacant for long.

The property "is not being actively marketed," says Michele Kornbluth, a broker with NAI KLNB, the real estate management company representing the property owner.

"We've had a lot of inquiries from people," Kornbluth says. "There's a lot of good demand."

In comments at Arbutus Patch and on Facebook, many residents have expressed a desire for another food store to replace Superfresh, particularly for an outlet such as Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.

Kornbluth says that such a store may be a possibility. Or it could become a coffee shop or bookstore.

What the location won't become, she says, is a vacant eyesore.
